"On Seeing People"

This is a poem I liked from my professor, thought I would pass it on....

"On Seeing People" by Arthur Lyons and Jason Hardy

I can do things you cannot.
That sounds like a boast. Maybe it is.
But you can do things I cannot.
That's true whoever "you" are. Each "you" in a community has a set of talents and abilites that make them unique.
Maybe I can cook, while you have trouble making Jell-O without ruining it.
Maybe you can make a dress from scratch, while I have trouble sewing on a button.
Maybe I have a head for numbers, while you have a gift for poetry.
Maybe I am introverted, you are extroverted. Or vice versa.

I can see advantages to knowing you. If I cook you a meal, you can help me with a tear in my shirt. If I use my ability with numbers to help you balance a checkbook, you can use your ability with words to help me put the rest of the world in balance.

We benefit eachother. My deficiencies are less of a problem for me, since I see you as a comrade who can complement me.

I see me as a comrade to complement you.

But what if I reversed the openeing statements?

I cannot do things you can, but you cannot do things I can.

Do we keep seeing ways to help eachother? Or does this focus encourage us to envy others for what they can do, and belittle them for what they cannot?

In the end, we see who we look for, and we profit more by what we can do, not what we cannot.

CHIA!

THanks to my friend Keryn and the wonderful book "Born to Run", I have been able to get my hands on a bag of CHIA SEEDS....sprinkle them over your cereal, granola,or mix into water ! Im about to go dancing in my class so we'll see how they work...

Some facts about Chia Seeds:
-The chia seeds are great for athletes because they are highly hydrophilic. Being hydrophilic means it absorbs large amounts of water. Chia Seeds can absorb over 10 times their weight in water making them a great enhancer in hydrating our bodies.

-They absorb the water we drink holding it in our system longer.
Studies show that eating chia seed slows down how fast our bodies convert carbohydrate calories into simple sugars. This leads scientists to believe that the chia seed may have great benefits for diabetics.

-The chia seed gels when becoming wet and this gel, when in our digestive systems, helps prevent some of the food, hence calories that we eat from getting absorbed into our system. This blockage of calorie absorption makes the chia seed a great diet helper. Eating the seeds also helps dieters by making them feel fuller faster so they will be less hungry!

-Chia seeds provide antioxidant activity
Chia is a great addition to a detoxification program. Chia seeds are high in fiber and in healthy oils making them an excellent addition to many detox programs.
Mix Chia seeds into yogurt, sprinkle them on cereal in the morning, add to salads, or even add them to your baking. There are many ways to add chia seeds into your daily routine!

Goodbyes are never easy...

After 17 years , Thai World restaurant of Medfield is being sold. Tonight, I had my favorite sweet n sour chicken, while Colin enjoyed the mango curry chicken one last time. The sweet wise woman at the front will be missed and yet only a mile from my home growing up, the food and empty presence will be remembered always. Time to move on...

Wednesday morning thoughts...

I was talking to a close friend (who will remain anonymous for blogger confidentiality) and she is leaving her current job to something new and different. The last few days she has been receiving an "overwhelming response" and her fellow worker friends have expressed such nice compliments and sentiments. I thought to myself, why does it take someone leaving to finally compliment someone? We all know how good it feels to hear a compliment and also how good it feels to compliment someone else. Even if it's something little....it can make someones day!

Julia & Kath

I told myself that when I started this blog it wouldnt be another Julia&Julia food blog but it seems as though food has been a popular topic on my mind lately. On recent articles on "what makes a great blog" they suggest that you should have a focus and be passionate about your subject. So I will continue to post pictures of my dinner creations because I have become so fond of cooking. Hopefully some more "action" will come around soon...

Morning Star...

So I took a risk today and let Colin make me lunch. He insisted on doing it "his" way and after arguing about me "micro-managing" his lunch making, I succumbed and let him do his magic. All I have to say is that if you want a POWER lunch, eat a Morning Star Veggie Burger. After bragging to my friend Julie, she suggest I snap a pic of it, unfortunately I had already finished. I know posting about lunch is silly, but seriously if something makes you feel so good, why not share it with my thousands of readers. MMmMmmm

V Day

My friend Jue and I once wrote a song for Feb 14 ..... starting out with the lyric "February 14....IS the day of Loooooove". I know, deep. However, its a simple message and should still hold true. So express that love with whomever, maybe even your dog

"Flow & Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi"

I just read a great article about "Flow" from one of my PE professors...

The author noted that "a major constraint on people enjoying what they are doing is always being conscious of a fear of how they appear to others and what these others might think. Ecstacy includes rising above these constraining concerns of the ego."

Step outside of normal daily routines!

How does it feel to be in the Flow?

Jersey Shore

Just returned from a 24-hour trip to New Jersey. What a blast. Erica and I realized, while were young, not pregnant, and energized, why not take a trip to visit some old friends. in the end, its worth it, plus i needed a good dose of estrogen, bud lights and long island ice teas. Time for bed-

Text of the Day

Got a text from my great friend Ooch tonight, it read, "Dream job: dance teacher on a cruise ship."

Welcome!

January 7, 2010 - Welcome to actionkath ! First and foremost, I'm thanking my cousin Matthew for creating this blog &blog title, as I am not computer savvy. I understand that no one may be interested in my blog, but I am okay with that. This site should display a plethora of random activities/videos/pictures that fudge together my life. Welcome -
